Storage Modes

The CoolDrawer™ has a wide range of storage modes which is ideal for customising the food items you want to store and when you want stored.

Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.02.40 AM.png Freezer Mode

Freezing and storing foods at temperatures -18°C or colder helps retain the physical quality and nutritional value of foods. Low temperatures inhibit the growth of bacteria, moulds and yeasts, thereby restricting chemical and physical reactions to extend the food’s storage life.

  • To activate, press and hold the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.06 PM.png button for 3 seconds to unlock the control panel.
  • Press the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.17 PM.png button to select ‘freezer’ mode.
  • The image.png icon will flash until the CoolDrawer™ is at a suitable temperature for food to be added (this will take between 1 – 6 hours).
  • Additional special functions can be activated when the CoolDrawer™ is set to ‘freezer’ mode (‘bottle chill’, ‘fast freeze’ and ‘deep freeze’), see ‘Operating Instructions’ section.

Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.03.59 AM.png Chill Mode

This mode is not recommended for the storage of any other food items perishable fresh meats, poultry, fish products and non-alcoholic beverages.

This mode operates at -0.5°C, a temperature that is ideal for the storage of highly perishable fresh meats, poultry and fish products. This temperature holds highly perishable foods close to its freezing temperature to retain their vital freshness by reducing the amount of microbial and physical activity.

The initial quality of the perishable food that is placed in ‘chill’ mode will be critical to successful storage. Ensure that meat and seafood is as fresh as possible when purchased and stored. This mode is also ideal for chilling alcoholic beverages. Research tells us that highly perishable foods stored on ‘chill’ mode will last 2 – 3 times longer than when stored at normal refrigerator temperatures.

  • To activate, press and hold the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.06 PM.png button for 3 seconds to unlock the control panel.

  • Press the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.17 PM.png button to select image.png.

  • The image.png icon will flash until the CoolDrawer™ is at a suitable temperature for food to be added (this will take between 1 – 6 hours).

This mode operates at 3°C and is the ideal storage environment for most general fresh foods, dairy and leftover items.

When storing fresh fruit and vegetables, we recommend that they are stored in the top or bottom bins on the left-hand side of the drawer. These bins are humidity controlled and help to preserve the quality of the fruit and vegetables, increasing their storage life.

  • To activate, press and hold theScreen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.06 PM.png button for 3 seconds to unlock the control panel.
  • Press the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.17 PM.png button to select  image.png.
  • The image.png icon will flash until the CoolDrawer™ is at a suitable temperature for food to be added (this will take between 1 – 6 hours).

Fruit and Vegetable Bins With Humidity Control Lids

  • The top and bottom bins on the left-hand side of the drawer are fitted with a unique; hidden lid which functions to seal the bins and provide a humid microclimate to extend the storage times of fruit and vegetables.
  • During times of high humidity the lid also functions to prevent condensation from dripping onto the fruit and vegetable by retaining this moisture in the lid’s specially designed grooves.
  • Each fruit and vegetable bin has a humidity control button that can be adjusted to care for fruit or vegetables depending on what is stored in the bins. The humidity controls are located on the left hand side of the CoolDrawer™.
  • Ideally store whole fruits and vegetables without external packaging, if possible, and in separate bins. Separating fruit and vegetables will prevent ethylene-sensitive produce from ripening too quickly, and help extend their storage life.
  • If there is too much water in the bins (due to high humidity in the bins), the control can be adjusted to the Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.10.28 AM.pngsetting and/or the water can be wiped dry when required.
  • Remember a small amount of water in the bins is beneficial for fruit and vegetable storage. The vegetable screens, in the bottom of the bins, will ensure that fresh produce is held above any moisture in the bottom of the bins to retain optimum freshness.

To Adjust the Humidity Setting:

The picture on the top of the humidity control button will show the current setting. To change the setting, simply push the adjustment button.

Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.17.36 AM.png Pantry Mode

This mode is not recommended for the storage of highly perishable fresh dairy and meat items, or pre-cooked foods.

This mode operates at 12°C and is ideal for the storage of tropical fruits, eg avocados, melons and pineapples, which prefer to ripen slowly under controlled conditions, without the risk of damage from low temperatures.

The storage of temperature sensitive foods that require extra care, eg bananas and tomatoes is also ideal. These foods often perish quickly if stored at room temperature but can be damaged by normal refrigerator temperatures.

‘Pantry’ mode is also perfect for foods recommending storage in a ‘cool, dark place’ eg freshly baked items such as cakes and breads. These items can quickly turn mouldy when placed in the cupboard but become hard and stale when placed in normal refrigerator temperatures.

  • To activate, press and hold theScreen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.06 PM.png button for 3 seconds to unlock the control panel.
  • Press the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.17 PM.png button to select  image.png
  • The image.png  icon will flash until the CoolDrawer™ is at a suitable temperature for food to be added (this will take between 1 – 6 hours).

Additional Uses of ‘Pantry’ Mode

  • Store dried goods, cereals and other items that can become a target for mould and insects when stored at room temperature and high humidity conditions.
  • To ripen moulded cheeses, eg brie, camembert, blue cheese. Ensure that cheeses are well wrapped, and once ripened place into ‘fridge’ mode.
  • Store you natural cosmetic and skin care products to keep them fresher for longer.
  • See ‘Storing Fresh Food In Your Appliance’ section for a table of some food items that are suitable for ‘pantry’ mode.

Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.20.25 AM.png Wine Mode

Wine generally matures at a steady temperature of 12°C, and for ready to drink wines they are best served at their ideal drinking temperatures. When ‘wine’ mode is activated the default setting is longer-term storage (12°C), however, this mode does operate between 7°C to 15°C providing an ideal controlled environment for the storage of red or white wines.

Temperature control is critical for the maturation of wines, as significant daily or weekly temperature fluctuations can denature wines. If storage temperatures are excessively high this can reduce the wines aromatic potential and can speed up maturation. This can cause some wines to take on a ‘spoiled fruit’ flavouring. If storage temperatures are excessively low, this can have the opposite effect and stunt a wines natural maturation process. This can prevent a wines flavours from developing to their full potential.

  • To activate, press and hold the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.06 PM.png  button for 3 seconds to unlock the control panel.
  • Press the Screen Shot 2017-12-26 at 5.04.17 PM.png  button to select Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.20.25 AM.png
  • The Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 10.20.25 AM.png  icon will flash until the CoolDrawer™ is at a suitable temperature for food to be added (this will take between 1 – 6 hours).

Short-Term Storage/Serving

  • The ideal serving temperature of your wine is crucial for your taste and enjoyment.
  • Red wines are best served at warmer temperatures and white wines are best served at cooler temperatures.
  • To customise the storage environment for different wines use the temperature adjustment control to change the temperature.

Long-Term Storage

  • The ideal temperature for storing red and white wines is 12°C (the default temperature for ‘wine’ mode).
  • Do keep in mind not all wine stored will improve/mature over time. Some wine are best consumed at an early stage, while others have remarkable ageing capabilities. Do check with your wine merchant for more information.
